The Gadwall is one of the most abundant puddle duck species. They are often found in small to medium sized flocks and decoy very well to most any puddle duck spread.

Although there are several decoy companies that specialize in the Gadwall species now, more important than having a full spread of Gadwall decoys is scouting and setting up in a small lake or shallow pond that is active and offers the plant life they feed on.

The Gadwall species seem to decoy very well into these situations. However being that they are most abundantly found in shallow ponds and sloughs many hunters choose to use the Jump Shooting method of harvesting these less then wary birds, especially when targeting them specifically.

On the table they make for a decent meal and being a medium sized duck they offer an ample amount of meat. They are also known for making a slow day on the marsh a little more active as again the tend to decoy into most any spread without caution.
